JBL Professional LSR705i - 5" Master Reference Monitor for Post-Production and Broadcast

The JBL Professional LSR705i is a 5-inch passive reference monitor designed for multi-channel, immersive systems in post-production suites, broadcast facilities, and OB vans. It leverages JBL’s patented Image Control waveguide and next-generation transducers to deliver precise imaging , extended response , and high output from a compact, easy-to-install enclosure. Its architecture is designed for centralized amplification and processing (Crown DCi / BSS Soundweb London), allowing for scalability, lower system noise, and tidy deployments in modern venues.

The 705i combines the 2409H compression driver (HF) with a 5” 725G woofer (LF) in a front-ported birch plywood enclosure. It delivers a response (±3 dB) from 48 Hz to 23 kHz with a usable range of 39 Hz to 36 kHz, achieving over 101 dB SPL continuous and 107 dB peak at 1 m. The 1.9 kHz crossover network can be bypassed for bi-amp operation with official tunings . Its Phoenix terminals accept wiring up to 12 AWG (≈ 3.31 mm²), and it features top, bottom and rear 2-hole mounting points for in-wall/ceiling or bookshelf integration, as well as soffit flush mounting.

Main features

  • Series 7 “install” optimized for post/broadcast control rooms and OB trucks.
  • New generation transducers : HF 2409H (low mass annular diaphragm) and LF 725G (5”).
  • Patented Image Control Waveguide : neutral off-axis response and coherent image between screen, surround and overhead channels.
  • Response (±3 dB): 48 Hz–23 kHz ; range: 39 Hz–36 kHz; SPL: >101 dB continuous / >107 dB peak (1 m).
  • Crossover at 1.9 kHz with the possibility of bi-amplification using dedicated tuning files.
  • Birch plywood enclosure , front port and internal reinforcements for rigidity and reduced turbulence.
  • Professional installation : Phoenix terminals (12 AWG ≈ 3.31 mm²) and top/bottom/rear mounting (2-hole pattern).
  • HARMAN Integration : Presets for Crown DCi (with DSP and BLU link) and BSS Soundweb London .
  • Compact dimensions (267 × 149 × 206 mm) and light weight (4.08 kg) per unit.

Product benefits

  • Accuracy and consistency : Image Control guide delivers a stable scene and consistent on- and off-axis response, facilitating confident mixing decisions.
  • Clean and scalable deployments : Centralized amplification/DSP reduces active room cabling, improves management, and allows for expansion to immersive systems.
  • High performance in a small form factor : real bass extension and useful SPL for small and medium-sized rooms without sacrificing linearity.
  • Tuning Flexibility : Single-wire or bi-amp operation with factory-locked tunings , plus additional room EQ in the processing.

Use cases

  • Post-production and broadcast control rooms that work in 5.1/7.1 and immersive formats.
  • Mobile units and compact rooms requiring a small footprint with precise imaging and professional output levels.
  • Installations with Crown DCi “N” and BSS London where it is desired to centralize amplification, monitoring and room EQ .

Integration and adjustment

  • Recommended amplification : 300 W per channel and HARMAN DSP. Crown DCi “N” can be loaded with 705i tunings ( single-wire and bi-amp) from Audio Architect ; for third-party amplifiers, use BSS Soundweb London .
  • Wiring : Phoenix terminals; 12 AWG (≈ 3.31 mm²) recommended. This gauge allows runs of up to ~30 m per channel.
  • Connection modes : single-wire (passive crossover) or bi-amplified (crossover bypass) with specific HF/LF files.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the LSR705i active? No. It's a passive "install" and requires external amplification and a Harman DSP .
  • Can it be bi-amped? Yes. The passive crossover can be bypassed for bi-amp operation with dedicated presets.
  • How is it mounted? It has two-hole mounting points on the top, bottom, and rear , and can be used as a shelving unit or recessed soffit .
