sE Electronics DM1 DYNAMITE – Active inline preamplifier with phantom power
The sE Electronics DM1 DYNAMITE is an ultra-compact inline preamplifier designed to fit between a dynamic or passive ribbon microphone and a microphone preamp. Featuring Class A circuitry with high-quality FETs and a dedicated buffer, it delivers 28 dB of clean, consistent gain regardless of load, preserving the source's original character without adding noise or coloration. Its road-ready, all-metal design, measuring just 19 mm in diameter, allows it to be mounted directly onto the microphone's XLR output or a short cable to be used to capture weak signals at optimal levels before the main preamp.
Main features
- Constant gain +28 dB: Always the same, regardless of load impedance.
- Frequency range: 10 Hz – 120 kHz (–0.3 dB) for ultra-wide bass and treble reproduction.
- Input impedance: 10 kΩ, ideal for dynamic and passive ribbon microphones.
- Output impedance: 135 Ω; recommended load impedance: >1 kΩ.
- Maximum output level: 8.3 dBV (0.5% THD).
- Noise level: 9 µV (A-weighted) for extremely quiet background.
- Power consumption: 3.0 mA from 48 V phantom power (IEC 61938); no power supply to the microphone.
- Connectivity: 3-pin male and female XLR, all-metal for intensive use.
- Dimensions: Ø 19 mm × L 95.5 mm; weight: 80 g.
Product benefits
- Transparent Boost: Adds 28 dB without altering the tonality or noise of the source.
- Plug-and-play design: Direct mounting on microphone or cable, ideal for live and studio use.
- Interference Reduction: Low output impedance and metal shielding minimize hum and RF.
- Rugged Construction: Metal housing and professional touring XLR connectors.
Use cases
- Reinforcement of low output dynamic microphones (SM7B, MD 421, C414 ribbon).
- Recording silent sources in home studio and broadcast.
- Live applications where extra gain is required without noise.
- Mobile setups and podcasting with minimalist setups.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it require phantom power? Yes; it uses 48 V phantom power according to IEC 61938 and consumes 3 mA.
- Does it increase background noise? No; thanks to the Class A design and selected FETs, it maintains an output noise level of just 9 µV.
- Can I use it with condenser microphones? No; only dynamic and passive ribbon microphones.
- How do I install the DM1? Connect it directly to the microphone's XLR output or insert a short cable between the two.
