PROEL CMT40 - Multi-port Audio Cable with 40 Shielded Pairs and XLPE Insulation
The PROEL CMT40 is a professional multi-core audio cable designed to meet the most demanding requirements of fixed installations, recording studios, and large-scale live events. With a massive 40-pair balanced configuration, this cable is the ultimate solution for centralizing and managing complex audio signal lines without compromising sound integrity. Manufactured to Proel's rigorous CMT series quality standards, this cable stands out for its robust construction and user-friendly engineering.
One of the critical issues in multi-pair cabling is crosstalk and external interference. The CMT40 addresses this with 100% shielding on each pair, guaranteeing complete isolation between channels and protecting the signal against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). The core of each conductor is insulated with XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) , a superior material to standard PVC that offers a lower dielectric constant. This results in lower capacitance, allowing high frequencies to travel longer distances without attenuation, maintaining crystal-clear sound that remains true to the original source.
Field usability is another key feature of the PROEL CMT40. To combat the typical chaos of wiring 80 solder points, each pair is individually numbered on both sides of its inner sheath and color-coded. This visual identification system drastically reduces assembly time and virtually eliminates phasing errors, ensuring a correct connection the first time. The entire assembly is protected by a highly flexible, abrasion-resistant PVC outer sheath, allowing for easy winding and rewinding even after extended use, and guaranteeing resistance to dragging and being stepped on during stage use.
Main Features
- 40 Balanced Pairs: Massive capacity for large consoles, stage boxes and patch panels.
- XLPE insulation: The red and black cross-linked polyethylene better withstands the heat of welding (preventing the insulation from shrinking) and improves the electrical properties of the cable.
- Simplified Identification: Pairs with individually numbered and colored covers for quick and error-free channel management.
- Superior Flexibility: Despite its large gauge, the outer cover maintains a malleability that facilitates its laying on trays or its mobile use on tours.
- Total Shielding: Individual protection per pair for clean signal transmission free of cross-noise.
Benefits for the Professional
For the systems engineer or sound technician, the PROEL CMT40 offers the peace of mind of a secure transmission. The use of flexible copper conductors ensures the cable isn't rigid, making it easy to route around corners or conduits in fixed installations. Furthermore, the thermal resistance of XLPE is a crucial advantage during termination: when soldering XLR or jack connectors, the insulation doesn't easily deform or melt, resulting in cleaner and more durable terminations. Its mechanical durability ensures a long return on investment, withstanding the physical stress of daily assembly and disassembly in touring applications.
Use Cases
- Stage Box Connection: Ideal for making main hoses (snakes) that connect the stage to the FOH (Front of House) mixing console.
- Recording Studios: Perfect for structured cabling between the control room and the recording rooms (Live Rooms), passing through walls or technical floors.
- Auditoriums and Theaters: Fixed installations where it is necessary to send multiple microphone and return lines discreetly and securely.
- Mobile Units: Audio management in relay units where reliability and speed of deployment are critical.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is this cable difficult to solder?
No, thanks to the XLPE insulation of the internal conductors, the material withstands the temperature of the soldering iron better than conventional PVC, facilitating a clean solder joint without the plastic melting or shrinking back. -
What is the total diameter of the hose?
Being a 40-pair cable, it has a considerable diameter (approximately 28 mm), but its flexible cover allows it to be handled with relative ease compared to rigid installation cables. -
Do the pairs come with individual dough?
Yes, each pair has its own shielding and ground conductor, allowing ground lift channel by channel if necessary and preventing ground loops. -
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
The PVC cover is robust and abrasion-resistant, suitable for temporary outdoor use (stages), although for permanent outdoor installations additional protection or tubing is recommended.
Project Description
PROEL CMT40 analog audio multipair cable consisting of 40 balanced pairs of 26 AWG (0.14 mm²) flexible copper conductors. Each pair features 1.05 mm XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) dielectric insulation, 100% individual shielding with 24 AWG (0.22 mm²) tinned copper drain wire, and a 2.80 mm numbered and colored PVC inner jacket for identification. The outer jacket is made of black, abrasion-resistant flexible PVC, with an approximate overall diameter of 28.30 mm. The cable offers a conductor resistance of 127 Ohm/Km and a conductor-to-conductor capacitance of 52 pF/m, operating within a temperature range of -20°C to +80°C.
