AKG 2144Z12010 - Inner rubber (foam strip) for K141 / K121 / K142 headphones

AKG reference 2144Z12010 is the inner cup rubber (also referred to as the foam strip in the service documentation) used in the K1xx series headphones. This foam strip is placed inside the capsule housing and serves a dual purpose: acoustically sealing the transducer and damping small internal resonances and vibrations. Replacing it restores the original fit and acoustic performance when the foam has deteriorated over time.

Compatibility confirmed in service manuals for the K121 Studio , K141/K141 MKII , and K142/K142 HD . Earlier models may have reference 2144Z1201 with the same function. Each earpiece uses two straps (one for each earcup), according to official parts lists.

Main features

  • AKG Genuine (OEM) Replacement for K1xx Series.
  • Function: Inner cup foam strip for sealing and sound damping.
  • Compatibility: K121 Studio, K141 / K141 MKII, K142 / K142 HD (see service notes).
  • Location: Inside the capsule housing of each cup.
  • Quantity per earpiece: 2 strips (one per side), according to the breakdown.
  • Recommended maintenance: Replace when foam is broken, hardened, or missing material to maintain internal bass response and insulation.

Product benefits

  • Restores factory acoustic performance: Improves internal sealing and helps stabilize the sound signature after years of use.
  • Reduces noise and resonances: attenuates microvibrations inside the cup that can color the audio.
  • Exact Fit: OEM part with density and shape specified by AKG.

Use cases

  • Restoration of K121/K141/K142 with degraded internal foam.
  • Preventive maintenance on studio, broadcast, or rental fleets to maintain consistency between units.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the “foam disc” on the pads?
No. The foam strip 2144Z12010 goes inside the cup. The 2144Z08010 is the foam disc that sits behind the cushion; they are separate pieces.

How many pieces do I need for a complete headset?
Two strips per earpiece (one for each cup), according to the service manuals.

Does it require special tools?
They're not usually necessary, but you should carefully remove the pad and open the cup housing. If you're inexperienced, a qualified technician is recommended.
