Audibax ADI-20P - 2-channel passive DI box with transformers, balanced XLR outputs and -15 dBu pad
The Audibax ADI-20P is a two-channel passive direct box (DI) designed to convert unbalanced, high-impedance signals (instruments or line outputs) into balanced, low-impedance outputs, ready to be fed directly into a mixing console or PA system. Each channel incorporates its own audio transformer to handle high levels without distortion, offering isolation, hum reduction, and improved interference rejection over long cable runs.
Its 1/4″ (TS) input jack has a thru output to send the signal to the musician's amplifier, while the output to the mixing console is via a balanced XLR connection . It includes a switchable 0/-15 dBu pad for adapting to hot sources and a ground-lift switch to eliminate ground loops. Being passive , it requires no external power supply. Its compact blue chassis facilitates setup for live performances, studio use, rentals, and installation.
Main features
- 2 independent channels: dual or stereo use in a single unit.
- Inputs: 2 × 1/4″ unbalanced jacks, with through outputs (thru) via 1/4″ jack.
- Outputs: 2 × balanced (Lo-Z) male XLR connectors for long runs with less degradation.
- Transformers per channel: handling high levels without distortion and galvanic isolation.
- Level control: switchable 0/-15 dBu pad .
- Reduced noise: Ground-Lift switch to break ground loops.
- Impedances: input >> 130 kΩ ; output 600 Ω .
- Compact construction: 107 × 70 × 45 mm; 322 g ; blue finish.
- Without power supply: passive operation.
Product benefits
- Clean and stable signal: balanced low impedance conversion for long runs over XLR with less noise.
- Versatility on stage and in studio: thru inputs to split the signal to the amp and the mixing console simultaneously.
- Adaptation to hot sources: the -15 dBu pad prevents overloads from keyboards, drum machines or interfaces.
- Less buzzing: Ground-Lift helps eliminate ground loops in complex installations.
- Ready for anything: two channels in one chassis for stereo or dual mono applications.
Use cases
- Instruments: guitars, basses (with or without active DI preamp), keyboards and synthesizers.
- Playback: players, interfaces and unbalanced line outputs to the console.
- Installation and rental: conversion and isolation in mobile racks and fixed systems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need feeding?
No. It's a passive box and works without power.
Can I use it with stereo signals?
Yes. Use one channel for L and another for R, or in dual mono with two different sources.
What is the purpose of Ground-Lift?
Disconnect the audio ground reference on the balanced output to help eliminate hum from ground loops.
When do I activate the pad?
When the source has a high level and causes saturation at the mixer's input, select -15 dBu .
Good practices
- Use balanced cables on the XLR outputs to the console to maximize interference rejection.
- If it's not necessary, turn off phantom power on the XLR inputs of the mixer.
- Place the DI near the source and avoid unnecessary loops in the wiring.
