Samson S-Max MD1 - Passive Mono DI Box with STL Transformer and Ground Lift
The Samson S-Max MD1 is a passive mono DI box designed to convert unbalanced instrument or line signals to a balanced, low-impedance XLR output , maintaining audio integrity over long cable runs without noise. It incorporates the Samson STL transformer , which offers a flat response of 18 Hz to 40 kHz and low distortion , as well as a Ground Lift switch to eliminate ground loops. Its IN + THRU connectivity via 6.35 mm jack allows the signal to be sent in parallel to an amplifier/monitor and the mixing console simultaneously. Constructed from 14-gauge steel , the MD1 can withstand intensive touring use and does not require power (neither phantom nor batteries).
Main features
- Passive mono DI for guitar, bass, keyboards, electronic drums and line players.
- Samson STL transformer with 18 Hz–40 kHz response and THD <0.03% (20 Hz–40 kHz).
- Ground Lift to break ground loops and reduce hum.
- IN and THRU on 6.35 mm jack (parallel) + balanced XLR output .
- Max. input level +20 dBu (0.35% THD) and >100 dB dynamic range.
- 14 gauge steel chassis , impact resistant.
- No power : 100% passive operation, no phantom power or batteries.
Product benefits
- Clean, consistent audio : Convert to low-impedance balanced for long cable runs with reduced susceptibility to noise.
- Easy integration : THRU allows you to keep your amp on stage while delivering a balanced signal to your mixer or interface.
- Noise Control : STL transformer and Ground Lift help eliminate hum and RF interference.
- Touring reliability : Rugged metal construction for rental, schools and everyday professional use.
Use cases
- Direct : Connect guitars, basses or keyboards to PA/monitors with minimal noise.
- Studio : Clean captures and re-amping with stable balanced output.
- Facilities : auditoriums, churches or educational centers with long runs and multiple users.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it need power? No. It's passive and doesn't require a phantom power supply or batteries.
- Can I use the THRU output for my amp? Yes. The THRU replicates the input to feed an amp or monitor in parallel to the XLR output.
- Can it handle line levels? Yes. It accepts both instrument and line signals; the passive transformer design handles high levels with low distortion.
