Electro-Voice RE520-RC3 Supercardioid Condenser Microphone Headworn for Wireless Transmitters (1.25″-28 Thread, TA 3-Ring/3-Pin)
The Electro-Voice RE520-RC3 is a threaded microphone head with a supercardioid pattern , condenser (autopol electret) capsule, designed to mount on handheld wireless transmitters using the 1.25″ diameter coupling convention , 28 UN-2A pitch, and 3-ring / 3-pin contacts. It delivers detailed, full, and clear sound with tight bass, present mids, and open highs, while effectively controlling off-axis sound to gain headroom before feedback.
It features a switchable high-pass filter (flat / HPF ~150 Hz ) to reduce handling, wind, and stage rumble, plus a multi-stage pop filter and internal suspension to minimize plosives and handling noise. Its aluminum and steel construction with a black polyurethane finish ensures durability at a low weight of 130 g . It is powered by the transmitter itself (bias 4–8 V DC ).
Main features
- Condenser capsule (autopol electret) with supercardioid pattern for greater acoustic isolation and feedback control.
- Standard 1.25″-28 UN-2A thread and 3-ring/3-pin contact : compatible with Electro-Voice handheld transmitters and others using this convention.
- Selectable high-pass filter (≈150 Hz) + multi-stage pop filter and internal damping against handling noise.
- Extended frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz , sensitivity 5.6 mV/Pa and max SPL 139 dB (1% THD) .
- Adjustable sleeve design (floating ID collar) to align the mark with the transmitter body when tightened.
Product benefits
- Superior vocal clarity with a modern, articulate timbre typical of condenser capsules.
- Greater gain before feedback thanks to the supercardioid pattern and off-axis control.
- Versatility of integration into multiple transmitters compatible with the 1.25″-28 / 3-ring standard.
- Less unwanted noise thanks to its switchable HPF, pop filter and internal suspension.
Use cases
- Live lead vocals and backing vocals (pop, rock, gospel, musical theatre).
- Presenters and masters of ceremonies who require a handheld with high intelligibility.
- Corporate production and broadcasting in high sound pressure settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it dynamic? No. It is an electret condenser and receives bias ( 4–8 V DC ) from the handheld transmitter.
- What transmitters is it compatible with? Electro-Voice handhelds (e.g., RE3-HHT) and other models that use a 1.25″-28 thread with 3 rings/3 pins .
- What's the high-pass filter used for? It reduces bass from handling/rumble and improves voice clarity in noisy environments.
