Electro-Voice RE50N/DB - Omnidirectional dynamic broadcast microphone with neodymium capsule and DynaDamp suspension
The Electro-Voice RE50N/DB is the classic handheld interview microphone optimized for broadcast , ENG/EFP, and print. It maintains the legendary RE50 architecture and adds a neodymium (N/DYM) magnet to deliver higher output with the same natural timbre and ruggedness. Its “ mic-in-mic ” design integrates a high-mass internal body and DynaDamp suspension, which isolates the capsule and minimizes handling, cable, and contact noise . The omnidirectional pattern captures voices evenly around the microphone, ideal for moving interviews and rapid camera angle changes.
Constructed from machined aluminum with a Memraflex grille that recovers its shape after impacts, it incorporates an internal anti-plosion filter and wind screen to minimize blows and air bursts. It offers a response of 80 Hz–13 kHz , balanced 150 Ω impedance and a 3-pin XLR connector with pin 2 positive . It measures 197 mm long, maximum diameter 49 mm and weighs 269 g . Semi-matte black “camera black” finish (N/DB version). Supplied with 323S clamp and holster .
Main features
- Neodymium magnet dynamic capsule (N/DYM) : higher output level vs. alnico versions, useful with demanding camera and recorder inputs.
- Omnidirectional pattern : Uniform pickup pattern around the microphone; facilitates quick interviews without losing intelligibility when moving the microphone between speakers.
- DynaDamp shock-mount and high-mass inner chamber : outstanding isolation from handling noise, shocks, and cable pulls.
- Internal anti-plosive filter and Memraflex grid: lower risk of “p-pops” and grid that recovers its shape after impacts.
- Professional Construction : Machined aluminum body, non-reflective black finish for on-camera use.
- Reference specifications : 80 Hz–13 kHz, sensitivity approx. 2.2 mV/Pa , 150 Ω , XLR-3, 197 × Ø49 mm , 269 g .
Product benefits
- Clean audio on the move : very low noise transmission through contact and cable, ideal for outdoor use and press conferences.
- Faster interviews : Omni pattern that forgives technique and maintains level even when the angle or distance changes.
- Impeccable visibility : discreet and durable “camera black” finish for television and streaming .
- Proven reliability : robust design designed for harsh conditions (humidity, temperatures, saltpeter).
Use cases
- Television and radio : street interviews, red carpets, mixed zones.
- Journalism and corporate : press conferences, conferences, events.
- Sound reinforcement : presentations and institutional events with non-specialized operators.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it need phantom power? No. It's dynamic ; it runs directly from the XLR input.
- Does it have an on/off switch? No, to avoid noise and accidental interruptions during interviews.
- How does it differ from the RE50B? The N/DB version uses neodymium and delivers higher output levels while maintaining all other features.
