Electro-Voice RE320 - Variable-D Cardioid Dynamic Microphone with Dual-Voicing Switch and Humbucking Coil
The Electro-Voice RE320 is a professional cardioid dynamic microphone designed for vocals and instruments in broadcast, podcasting, studio, and live applications. It features our renowned Variable-D technology, which controls proximity effect and maintains a stable timbre even when the speaker or source moves off-axis. Its integrated humbucking coil rejects electromagnetic interference (such as hum from transformers, monitors, and lights), and the Dual-Voicing switch offers two optimized response curves: a general one for vocals/instruments and a “kick” one for kick drum and punchier bass sources. With a response of 30/45 Hz–18 kHz depending on the selected curve, a 2.5 mV/Pa output , and a 150 Ω impedance , the RE320 delivers articulate sound with clear transients without the need for phantom power.
Main features
- Variable-D : Proximity effect control and reduced off-axis coloration for stable tone in voiceover and close miking.
- Dual-Voicing Switch : Two selectable responses on the microphone itself ( general vocal/instrument and kick drum ) to adapt the capture without external EQ.
- Humbucking coil and integral pop-filter : quiet signal with excellent hum rejection and reduced pop from explosive consonants.
- N/Dym dynamic element (neodymium magnet): high output and great transient response.
- Robust construction : steel body, semi-gloss black finish, designed for intensive use.
- Standard connectivity : 3-pin XLR , 150 Ω , no power required.
- Accessories : Includes 81715 clamp ; optional WSPL-2 (windshield) and 309A (suspension) compatible accessories.
Product benefits
- Consistent broadcast/podcast voice : stable timbre if the presenter moves their head or varies the distance.
- True versatility : Switch to kick mode for defined kick and bass; return to master mode for vocals, brass, guitars, strings, or wind instruments.
- Minimal noise : Humbucking and internal filters reduce hum and pop without resorting to external accessories.
- Instant integration : wide-range dynamics, healthy output and standard XLR for any interface or console.
Use cases
- Broadcast and podcast : lead vocals, voice-overs, and voiceovers with presence and proximity control.
- Studio and live : bass drum (kick mode), bass/amps , brass, electric/acoustic guitars and percussion.
- Music production : capturing punchy sources without overloading preamps.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it need phantom power? No. It's a dynamic microphone.
- What does the Dual-Voicing switch do? It lets you choose between a general vocal/instrument curve and a kick curve designed for kick drums and punchier bass guitars.
- What accessories are recommended? For mechanical isolation on the arm/support, use the 309A suspension; for wind/plosives, use the WSPL-2 foam.
