Electro-Voice PolarChoice Boundary (PC Boundary) - Multi-pattern boundary microphone with programmable mute and RF/GSM shielding
The Electro-Voice PolarChoice Boundary (PC Boundary) is an ultra-low-profile boundary microphone designed for conference rooms, lecture halls, houses of worship, and corporate AV environments. It features four switchable on-body polar patterns (omnidirectional, cardioid, supercardioid, and figure-8), maintaining a consistent microphone voice across all four modes for natural, predictable pickup patterns. The large mute switch is programmable (latch on/off or momentary push-to-mute/push-to-talk ), and the RF Shield provides high immunity to RFI/GSM interference . Its all -steel construction with a non-reflective black finish facilitates discreet integration into a table or lectern, and it is powered by 12–52 V DC phantom power via a 3-pin XLR connector. It also features status LEDs and internal modes for working with automatic mixers without detaching the microphone.
Main features
- Four switchable patterns : omni, cardioid, supercardioid and figure-8, selectable via internal 4-position switch.
- Programmable mute : Configurable top membrane switch for push-on/off or push-to-mute/push-to-talk operation ; selectable audio on/off, audio mute , and Automix mode (always on) without having to open the microphone.
- RF Shield : Effective protection against RFI/GSM interference in installations with mobile devices.
- Status LED : Visual indicator (blue) of active microphone; controllable when used in automatic mode.
- Response : 50 Hz – 20 kHz (−3 dB) with consistent voice across all patterns.
- Element : dual back-electret condenser; impedance 200 Ω (balanced low-Z); sensitivity (OCV) 31.5 mV/Pa .
- Construction : Steel housing, non-reflective black finish ( camera black ); shock-absorbing base to reduce transmitted vibrations.
- Connection and power supply : 3-pin XLR , 12–52 V DC phantom power ; pin 2 polarity positive with respect to pin 3.
- Dimensions and weight : 110.4 × 64.6 × 25.8 mm (length × width × height); 269 g (including integrated cable approx. 3.0 m / 10 ft ).
Product benefits
- True versatility : Change the pattern in seconds to accommodate oval tables, face-to-face meetings (figure 8), or room coverage (omni) without changing microphones.
- Instant control of operation : Configure the mute to your workflow (toggle or momentary) and select whether the microphone starts active or muted.
- Clean installation : Low profile, non-reflective finish, and status LEDs facilitate aesthetic integration and intuitive use by speakers.
- Reliability in complex environments : RF/GSM shielding minimizes artifacts caused by nearby mobile and wireless systems.
Use cases
- Conference and meeting rooms : area coverage with one or more microphones and local mute control.
- Training and classrooms : cardioid/supercardioid pattern to focus on the teacher and reduce room noise.
- Worship spaces and corporate events : stable operation and discreet appearance on a table/lectern.
- Face-to-face meetings : figure-8 pattern for two opposing speakers with ambient noise attenuation.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it need external power? Yes, it runs on 12–52 V DC phantom power via the 3-pin XLR connector.
- Does it have a status LED? Yes, a blue LED that indicates the microphone's status and can be controlled in automixer mode.
- How do you configure the pattern and mute behavior? Using internal selectors: pattern (4 positions), Automix/Normal , push on/off or push-to-mute / push-to-talk , power-on state, and switchable high-pass filter .
- Is it immune to cell phone interference? It incorporates an RF Shield for high immunity to RFI/GSM in modern installations.
