KORG opsix mk II - 37-key “Altered FM” FM synthesizer with 64 voices, sequencer, and effects
The Korg opsix mk II is a digital synthesizer keyboard that reinvents FM with a straightforward, visual workflow. Its Operator Mixer (six faders and six illuminated knobs) makes FM understandable and controllable, and its Altered FM engine expands the palette beyond classic FM with six Operator modes (FM, Ring Mod, Filter, Filter FM, Wave Folder, and Effect), 23 oscillator waveforms , and 11 analog-characterized filter types (MS-20, Polysix, 2/4-pole LP/HP/BP/BR). Polyphony climbs to 64 voices , and the 37-key velocity- and velocity-sensitive keyboard translates every nuance of your performance. Added to this are 30 studio-quality internal effects , a step sequencer (16 steps, up to 6 notes per step) with Motion Sequencing (6 lanes), an arpeggiator , and balanced TRS outputs for clean live and studio integration.
It comes standard with 500 programs (with 64 Favorites for instant access) and is fully compatible with the sounds of the original opsix and opsix native software. With the latest updates, the opsix ecosystem adds MIDI 2.0 Property Exchange and polyphonic Aftertouch reception via external MIDI, for modern expressive control from compatible controllers. All in a portable chassis (565 × 338 × 90 mm; 2.9 kg) and with USB-B (MIDI) , MIDI DIN and Damper pedal input (no half pedal).
Main features
- Altered FM engine with 6 operators , algorithms (40 + user) , 6 operator modes (FM, Ring Mod, Filter, Filter FM, Wave Folder, Effect) and 23 oscillator shapes (includes white/pink/blue and additive noise ).
- Polyphony : up to 64 voices ; 37-key keyboard with velocity and release velocity .
- Filters with character: LP/HP/BP/BR 2/4 pole, MS-20 LP/HP and Polysix LP.
- Modulation : 3 envelopes, 3 LFOs (23 shapes), 12 Virtual Patches and open matrix.
- Sequencing : Step Sequencer (16 steps, 6 notes per step) + Motion Sequencing (6 lanes) and arpeggiator with 7 patterns.
- Internal effects : 3 blocks with 30 types (chorus, ensemble, phaser, rotary, BPM delays, shimmer and spring reverbs, compressor, EQ, distortions, etc.).

- Compatibility : Swap sounds with opsix (original) and opsix native ; Free library/editor.
- Connectivity : L/Mono and R TRS impedance-balanced outputs, headphones , Damper (without half-damper), MIDI IN/OUT and USB-B (MIDI).
- Modern Expressiveness : Support for MIDI 2.0 Property Exchange and polyphonic Aftertouch (via external MIDI) within the opsix ecosystem.
- Portability : 565 × 338 × 90 mm; 2.9 kg ; 5 W consumption ; DC 12 V adapter included.
Product benefits
- Frictionless FM : Design complex sounds by moving faders/knobs on the Operator Mixer; red = carriers, blue = modulators.
- Mix-ready sounds : Modeled filters, chain effects, and balanced TRS outputs reduce external processing.
- Evolving ideas : polyphonic sequences with parameter-driven Motion for step-by-step textures.
- Unified ecosystem : Share presets between hardware and plugins and take advantage of official sound packs.
Use cases
- Direct : Smooth transitions between presets, immediate control, and balanced outputs to the mixer/PA.
- Sound design and studio : from expansive pads and bright keys to aggressive bass and experimental textures.
- Hybrid Production : Edit/organize with the Librarian and move your banks between opsix hardware and opsix native .
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it have USB audio? No. The USB-B port transmits MIDI/data ; audio outputs through L/Mono and R/headphones.
- Does it support half-pedal? The Damper input does not support half-damper .
- Can I use polyphonic aftertouch? Yes, the opsix ecosystem supports poly aftertouch via external MIDI with the latest updates.
