Electro-Voice ND86-RC3 - Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone Head for Wireless Transmitters
The Electro-Voice ND86-RC3 is a threaded microphone head for handheld transmitters featuring the ND86 capsule, a supercardioid , neodymium-magnet dynamic transducer designed for live vocals. Its industry-standard 1.25″-28 UN-2A threading with 3-ring / 3-pin contacts ensures electrical and mechanical compatibility with Electro-Voice and other handheld bodies that employ this convention. The ND86-RC3 delivers a present, smooth, and detailed sound with excellent stage noise isolation and gain-before-feedback.
To maximize reliability on tour and in concert, it features a Memraflex dent-resistant grille , a hydrophobic membrane that protects the cartridge from moisture and dirt, a humbucking coil that protects against interference, and an advanced shock mount with a 4-point suspension and pneumatic pump that significantly reduces handling noise. A floating ID collar allows for aligning the marking when tightening the screw for a clean finish on the transmitter.
Main features
- Supercardioid dynamics : high off-axis rejection and high gain before feedback .
- 1.25″-28 thread and 3-ring/3-pin contact: direct integration with numerous handheld wireless transmitters.
- Shock-mount with 4-point suspension + pneumatic pump for low handling noise .
- Memraflex + hydrophobic membrane and humbucking coil : robustness and rejection of humidity/hum.
- Voice-tuned response : 30–17,000 Hz (near) / 70–17,000 Hz (far), sensitivity 5.6 mV/Pa , max. SPL 134.5 dB (1% THD) .
- Aluminum and steel construction with black polyurethane finish.
Product benefits
- Voice with presence, clarity and detail even in high-volume scenarios.
- Less risk of feedback and better control of ambient sound thanks to supercardioid directivity.
- Professional reliability : physical resistance, protection against moisture and reduced handling noise.
- Easy compatibility with EV handheld bodies (e.g., RE3-HHT) and others that use 1.25″-28 / 3-rings.
Use cases
- Live lead vocals and backing vocals (pop, rock, gospel, musical theatre).
- Presenters and masters of ceremonies who require high intelligibility and rejection of the environment.
- Corporate production and broadcast in demanding scenarios.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it a condenser microphone? No, it's dynamic ; it doesn't require phantom power. The transmitter body provides the internal polarization for the head.
- What transmitters is this compatible with? Electro-Voice and others that use a 1.25″-28 thread and 3-ring/3-pin contacts .
- Does it include a windscreen? It's compatible with the optional 379-1 windscreen and comes with replacement grilles.
