Electro-Voice ND46 - Supercardioid Dynamic Instrument Microphone with Pivoting Head and Humbucking Coil
The Electro-Voice ND46 is a large-diaphragm dynamic instrument microphone with a supercardioid pattern, tuned for drums, percussion, guitar and bass amps, brass, and sources with high transients. Its pivoting, locking head allows for quick and easy capsule pointing and angle adjustment without moving the foot, facilitating precise placement on drum kits and in tight spaces. The capsule delivers a rich, balanced sound with excellent isolation from other instruments, and the humbucking coil reduces mains hum and EMI interference near transformers and lighting fixtures. The Memraflex grille resists dents, and the capsule is suspended to minimize handling noise.
It offers a frequency response of 70 Hz to 18 kHz , impedance of 350 Ω , sensitivity 2.4 mV / Pa (OCV, 1 kHz) and handling levels over 140 dB SPL , so it can withstand close snare and kick hits without clipping. Its zamak (die-cast zinc) construction with a black polyurethane finish and 3-pin XLR connector ensures durability on the road. Dimensions: 144 mm high × 56 mm max diameter; weight 309 g . Includes clip , Euro thread adapter and pouch .
Main features
- Supercardioid pattern : Excellent side/rear rejection for increased gain before feedback.
- Pivoting head with lock : comfortable positioning on toms, snare drums, toms or in front of speaker cones.
- Humbucking coil and suspended cartridge : less hum and lower handling noise.
- Response 70 Hz–18 kHz and Max. SPL >140 dB : low-end punch and defined attack with clean transients.
- Robust construction : zamak body, Memraflex anti-dent grille , durable black finish.
- Standard connectivity : 350 Ω balanced output, 3-pin XLR , pin 2 positive polarity.
Product benefits
- Fast and precise assembly thanks to the articulated head: fewer tripods and better ergonomics in complex kits.
- Cleaner mixes due to its supercardioid directivity and less bleed from noisy turntables and stages.
- Live reliability : shock-resistant grille, metal chassis and hum-immune electronics.
- True versatility : from toms and snare drums to guitar/bass cabinets , brass and low percussion.
Use cases
- Toms and snare (top/side), with defined attack and leak control.
- Guitar and bass amplifiers , with exact placement in front of the cone.
- Percussion (congas, bongos, timbales) and brass (trombone, trumpet) in studio and live.
