BSS BLU-BOB1 - 8-Channel Breakout Box/Output Expander with BLU Link (Half-Rack)
The BSS BLU-BOB1 is an analog output expander for the Soundweb London platform that adds 8 line channels to the BLU link digital bus. Its “ break-out box ” architecture allows outputs to be deployed close to the destination area and the audio to be transported over the network to the matrix/processor, with a 256-channel bus ( 128 to 96 kHz) with low latency and fault-tolerant topology , using Cat 5e/Cat 6 cable up to 100 m between devices. For long distances, it can be extended over single-mode fiber using the MC-1 converter, exceeding 10 km .
The 8-channel block is selected from a choice of 256 via six rear-panel DIP switches ; no configuration in Audio Architect is required . Each output offers +19 dBu max, THD < 0.01% , and a typical dynamic range of 110 dB , with a 40 Ω balanced ( 20 Ω unbalanced) output impedance . It comes with an external 12 V DC power supply and a half-width chassis for desktop/wall mounting or 1U rack mounting using the optional tray.
Main features
- 8 electronically balanced analog line outputs (removable Phoenix/Combicon connectors).
- DIP assignment of any 8-channel block within the 256 channels on the bus.
- BLU link : 256 ch@48 kHz / 128 ch@96 kHz, 100 m per Cat 5e/6 span, up to 60 nodes , latency per node 4/Fs .
- Output performance : +19 dBu max.; 20 Hz–20 kHz (+0.5/−1 dB); THD < 0.01 % (@ +10 dBu); DR 110 dB typ.; crosstalk < −105 dB .
- D/A Latency : 28/Fs (0.58 ms @ 48 kHz; 0.29 ms @ 96 kHz).
- Front indicators : Signal LED per output and Power .
- Flexible installation : half-rack chassis for desktop/wall mounting; 1U rack-mount option with tray (two half-racks per U).
- Power : 12V DC adapter included (AC input to adapter: 19W).
Product benefits
- Instant implementation : DIP-based channel selection eliminates programming; just plug and play.
- Professional quality : high-headroom, very low distortion outputs for distribution and power supply stages.
- Scalability and resilience : BLU link allows for channel growth while maintaining very low latencies and fault tolerance.
- Efficient mounting : compact half-rack format; up to 2 units (16 outlets) in 1U with the rack tray.
Use cases
- Signal distribution for amplification by zones in hotels, retail, and corporate spaces.
- Meeting rooms and auditoriums: sending to remote matrices/amplifiers via BLU link.
- Convention centers: Modular expansion of outputs without long analog runs.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I select channels? Use the six rear DIP switches to select the consecutive block of eight channels within the BLU link bus.
- Is it configurable in Audio Architect? No. The BLU-BOB1 is n't configured via software; only via DIP switches.
- What distance does the network support? 100 m between devices with Cat 5e/6; with MC-1 on single-mode fiber, >10 km .
- Can I rack mount it? Yes. With the 1U tray (accessory), you can mount one or two half-rack units in 1U.
