OSRAM QTP-OPTIMAL 1x18–40 - Multiwatt electronic ballast for T5/T8 fluorescent and CFL lamps, non-dimmable
The OSRAM QTP-OPTIMAL 1x18–40 is a highly reliable professional electronic ballast for operating fluorescent lamps in the 18–40 W range (T8/T5 HO and CFL compact fluorescent lamps). Designed for demanding installations in offices, industrial facilities, and public buildings, it incorporates Cut-Off technology for maximum efficiency, optimized preheating start-up to extend lamp life, and automatic restart after lamp replacement. Its electronics support 220–240 V AC mains and also DC power (0 Hz) between 176–276 V , making it suitable for emergency lighting . With a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours (at Tc 65 °C, max. 10% failure rate), it meets key safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards and offers high-frequency operation (40–50 kHz) that eliminates visible flicker and the hum associated with magnetic equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it dimmable? No, this model does not include a dimming function.
- What lamps does it accept? One 18…40 W lamp: T8 (e.g. 18/30/36/40 W), T5 HO (24/39 W) and CFL type DULUX/PL-L (18/24/36/40 W), according to the power combination indicated by the manufacturer.
- Is it suitable for emergency use? Yes, it can operate on 176…276 V DC (0 Hz), suitable for emergency systems.
- In which luminaires can it be mounted? In class I and II luminaires; the equipment has protection class I and an IP20 rating.
- How does temperature affect lifespan? At a Tc of 65 °C, lifespan reaches up to 100,000 hours ; excessive temperature reduces durability.
Installation recommendations
- Keep the cables between the ballast and the lamp as short as possible and route them in pairs to minimize interference.
- Check the conductor cross-section and proper grounding in Class I luminaires.
- Respect the Tc point on the equipment nameplate and ensure adequate ventilation in the luminaire.
- Use type B circuit breakers and consider the inrush current (24 A) when sizing the circuit.
