OSRAM XBO 100 W OFR - Short Arc Xenon Lamp (Double Terminal) for Endoscopy, Microscopy and Fiber Optics
The OSRAM XBO 100 W OFR is a 100 W short-arc xenon lamp with terminals at both ends, designed to deliver extremely high luminance from a point source and a continuous spectrum in the visible range. It provides a color temperature of ~6000 K (daylight) with a CRI Ra 98 , instant start , hot restart , and wide-range dimming . The OFR version uses special quartz that blocks the 185 nm line to prevent ozone formation. Its compact geometry and arc stability make it the ideal choice for endoscopy , microscopy , surgical headlamps , fiber optic illumination , as well as solar simulation and R&D imaging/scanning .
Main features
- Professional light quality: ~ 6000 K (daylight) and CRI Ra 98 constant throughout its lifespan.
- High luminance point source: very stable arc for efficient coupling to fiber and optics.
- Flexible operation: dimmable , instant start and hot restart .
- OFR (ozone-free) version: quartz that suppresses ozone formation.
- Robust and compact construction: Ø 11 mm , length 90 mm , LCL 44.5 mm , weight ~12 g .
Product benefits
- Stable and reliable color: homogeneous daylight and reference color reproduction for critical vision and image capture.
- Quality uniformity: consistency between lamps and different power levels within the XBO family.
- Productivity: hot restart and regulation to adapt to the procedure without waiting.
- Long service life for its category: up to 500 h (reference conditions).
Use cases
- Health and science: light sources for endoscopy , microscopy and surgical headlamps .
- Industry and R&D: fiber optic lighting , low-power solar simulation , imaging and scanning .
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it need a specific power supply? Yes. It requires DC power with a stabilized current according to the lamp's electrical specifications.
- Does it generate ozone? No. The OFR version uses quartz, which blocks the radiation responsible for forming ozone.
- How should it be mounted? Position s100 : if installed vertically, anode up ; up to 10° below the horizontal, cathode up .
- What type of cooling is required? Convection (according to the data sheet). Ensure proper ventilation of the compartment.
- Is it safe in the open? It must be operated in enclosed housings due to its high luminance, UV radiation, and high internal pressure; always use protective covers during handling.
Installation and safety
- Respect the electrical parameters : 12.8–14.4 V DC and 7.0–7.4 A (100 W nominal).
- Avoid touching the quartz; use PPE and the supplied covers .
- Check the polarity and correct seating of the SFa7.5-2 (cathode) / SFa9-2 (anode) bases.
- Ensure ventilation and protection against UV/IR and fragmentation in case of breakage.
