BSS BLU-BOB2 - Breakout box with 8 analog outputs via BLU link
The BSS BLU-BOB2 is an analog output expander for the Soundweb London platform that adds 8 balanced line outputs via the BLU link digital bus (256 channels, low latency and fault-tolerant). Its configuration is extremely simple: using 6 DIP switches, it selects any consecutive block of 8 channels from those available on the BLU link ring, without the need for software. The 19”/1U chassis integrates LED indicators for signal presence per output and power, and uses the same block connectors (Phoenix/Combicon) as the rest of the Soundweb London family.
The BLU-BOB2 integrates into the BLU link ring using two RJ45 connectors (IN/OUT). Using Cat5e cable , the distance between devices can be up to 100 m ; if longer distances are required, the MC-1 fiber optic media converter can be used to exceed 10 km using single-mode . At the audio level, it offers up to +19 dBu output level, THD < 0.01 % (20 Hz–20 kHz @ +10 dBu), typical dynamic range of 108 dB (unweighted) and a D/A latency of 0.58 ms at 48 kHz . It is powered by an external 12 V DC supply (included) and does not require configuration in HiQnet Audio Architect/London Architect .
Main features
- 8 electronically balanced, line-level analog audio outputs .
- DIP selection of any 8-channel block from the ring (256 total channels at 48 kHz; 128 at 96 kHz).
- Low latency, fault-tolerant BLU link , ring connection with RJ45 (IN/OUT).
- Cat5e up to 100 m between devices; single-mode fiber option >10 km with MC-1 converter.
- Front LEDs indicating signal presence per output and power supply.
- 19” 1U chassis ; Phoenix/Combicon connectors for audio and power.
- External 12V DC power supply included; adapter consumption 19W.
Product benefits
- Immediate deployment : Routing is defined solely with DIP switches, without programming.
- Secure scalability : The BLU link ring allows you to expand outputs while maintaining low latency and fault tolerance.
- Professional audio quality : +19 dBu max, THD <0.01%, typical dynamic range 108 dB.
- Easy integration : same hardware and connectors as the rest of Soundweb London equipment.
Use cases
- Expansion of outputs by zones (background music, distribution to power amplifiers or 70/100 V lines).
- Sound reinforcement and AV installations that require additional outputs near racks or remote areas.
- Distributed systems with long fiber spans (MC-1) between distant buildings or racks.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it configured with Audio Architect? No. Output assignments are made using DIP switches only.
- How many channels does the BLU Link support? 256 at 48 kHz (or 128 at 96 kHz) per ring; the BLU-BOB2 uses selection in blocks of 8 consecutive channels.
- What is the maximum distance between nodes? Up to 100 m with Cat5e; with MC-1, it can exceed 10 km over single-mode fiber.
- Can I mix BLU-BOB1 and BLU-BOB2? Yes; they share connections and signaling. BLU-BOB1 is half-width; BLU-BOB2 is 1U/19”.
