Electro-Voice RE520 - Supercardioid condenser vocal microphone with multi-layer high-pass and pop filters
The Electro-Voice RE520 is a handheld condenser vocal microphone with a supercardioid pattern that delivers detailed, full, and highly intelligible sound for both live and studio applications. Its back-electret capsule and optimized electronics deliver a frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz and outstanding gain-before-feedback thanks to off-axis monitoring. It features a switchable high-pass filter (150 Hz) to reduce stage noise and rumble, a multi-layer pop filter to minimize plosives, and an internal hanger to attenuate handling noise. It operates on 48 V DC phantom power and delivers a sensitivity of −45 dBV/Pa (5.6 mV/Pa) with 17 dB(A) self-noise , 133 dB dynamic range , and 150 dB SPL clipping level (1% THD) . Rugged zamak (zinc) construction with a steel grille and non-reflective black finish.
Main features
- Supercardioid pattern for excellent sound isolation and feedback control; maximum monitor attenuation at ~ 125°/225° off-axis.
- Switchable high-pass filter (150 Hz) to clean up unwanted bass without losing vocal body.
- Multi-layer pop-filter (two layers of foam separated by an air chamber) that reduces blowing noises and plosives.
- Internal suspension that minimizes driving noise and vibrations.
- Wide 40Hz–20kHz response with tight bass, natural mids, and open highs.
- Top-level specifications : 5.6 mV/Pa, 150 dB SPL clipping, 17 dB(A) self-noise and 200 Ω output impedance.
- 48V DC phantom power and 3-pin XLR connector.
- Includes microphone clip, carrying bag and documentation.
Product benefits
- Present and defined voice with great lateral and rear rejection: cleaner mix in demanding scenarios.
- Bass and pop control thanks to the 150 Hz filter and the multi-layer anti-pop system.
- Less handling noise due to internal suspension and solid touring construction.
- Instant professional integration : Balanced XLR, 200 Ω and standard phantom power.
Use cases
- Solo singers and live choirs requiring high isolation and condenser detail.
- Presenters and hosts at events, trade shows, and streaming .
- Worship venues , theaters, and multi-channel sound rentals .
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it dynamic or condenser? It's a condenser microphone and requires phantom power (48V DC recommended) .
- What is the high-pass filter used for? To reduce stage noise, handling noise , and excessive proximity noise; it attenuates below 150 Hz .
- How do I position the floor monitor? For best rejection, place it approximately 125° to 225° off-axis from the capsule.
- What's included? RE520 microphone, stand clip, gig bag , and documentation.
