dbx 510 - 500 Series Dual-Band Subharmonic Synthesizer with LF Boost
The dbx 510 brings the brand’s classic subharmonic synthesis to the 500 Series format , allowing you to add deep, controlled low end to any signal without muddying the mids or highs. Its Modeled Waveform Synthesis™ technology generates content an octave below the source material and offers two independent working bands : 24–36 Hz and 36–56 Hz , each with its own synthesis level control and LED indicators (green/amber/red). A global Subharmonics control sets the total amount of effect, and the LF Boost circuitry fills the gap between the generated sub-bass and the program low/mid-bass for a punchy, musical result.
With hardwire bypass , professional-grade electronically balanced I/O ( +22 dBu max), dynamic range > 120 dB , and THD+N < 0.003% , the 510 is a precise tool for club/DJ , live , broadcast , post, or studio use . It installs in any standard 500 chassis (1 slot) and consumes ±16 V / 85 mA per rail .
Main features
- Modeled Waveform Synthesis™ that preserves mids and highs.
-
Independent double band work:
- 24–36 Hz with dedicated control and LED meter (signal/near clip/clip).
- 36–56 Hz with dedicated control and LED meter (signal/near clip/clip).
- Global Subharmonics control to adjust the total amount of synthesis applied.
- LF Boost control to reinforce the “natural” bass and blend in with the generated subharmonics; can be used alone.
- Front-switched hardwire bypass for instant comparison.
- Professional performance : response 20 Hz–20 kHz (+0/−0.5 dB), noise < −99 dBu , DR > 120 dB .
- 500 Series Construction : 1 slot , easy installation in standard chassis.
Product benefits
- Audible and “Feelable” Bass : Adds musical sub-bass an octave lower, ideal for PA, club or cinema reinforcement.
- Fine control : works by bands (24–36 and 36–56 Hz) and adjusts the overall sum with Subharmonics to avoid excesses.
- Clean integration : by not equalizing but generating subharmonics, it avoids raising noise and compensates for poor bass sources.
- Immediate reading : LED per band to monitor levels and avoid cuts in the most critical area.
Use cases
- Club/DJ : Sub-bass boost on kick drum and bass while maintaining clarity in mid-highs.
- FOH/Sound Reinforcement : More impact on subs without overloading the rest of the system.
- Post and cinema : creation of LFE information and perceived sub-bass in effects and environments.
- Study : give body to drums, bass or synthesis without dirtying the mix.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the synthesis range? It generates subharmonics between 26–56 Hz from 54–110 Hz material, controlled by the 24–36 and 36–56 Hz bands.
- Can I use just the bass boost? Yes, just set Subharmonics to minimum and adjust LF Boost to your liking.
- Do I need a special chassis? Any standard 500 Series power frame with a ±16 V power supply.
