AKG C562 CM - Omnidirectional Recessed Boundary Microphone for Ambient Acoustic Recording
The AKG C562 CM is a boundary layer microphone for flush mounting in ceilings, walls, tables or platforms. Its hemispherical omnidirectional condenser capsule takes advantage of the effect of the surface to deliver a homogeneous capture of the environment, minimize comb filtering and gain up to +6 dB of sensitivity compared to a conventional omni mounted off the surface. Thanks to its high sensitivity (25 mV/Pa) and low self-noise (16 dB-A) , it provides excellent clarity and intelligibility in meeting rooms, auditoriums, theaters, educational centers or ambient miking applications. The low-profile cylindrical design allows for near-invisibility integration, with a satin nickel finish that blends into the architecture.
It includes an XLR phantom adapter that connects to the microphone via a mini connector ; this allows the mounting hole to be smaller than the diameter of the XLR adapter. It operates on 9–52 V DC phantom power (≈ 2 mA) and delivers a balanced signal via a 3-pin XLR . Very compact dimensions ( Ø 20 mm , 28 mm visible height and 12 mm depth) and a net weight of 30 g complete this reliable solution for ambient capture and monitoring/recording in venues.
Main features
- Boundary flush-mount : recessed installation that reduces problematic reflections and increases sensitivity.
- Hemispherical (omni) pattern for uniform coverage of the area in front of the surface.
- 20 Hz – 20 kHz , 25 mV/Pa , 16 dB-A noise and 78 dB-A S/N for clear voice and ambient pickup.
- XLR phantom adapter included, with mini-plug connection for smaller holes.
- Discreet design : Ø 20 mm, 28 mm height above surface and 12 mm mounting depth; 30 g .
- Balanced output via 3-pin XLR; phantom power 9–52 V (≈ 2 mA).
Product benefits
- “Invisible” capture of rooms and ensembles without visible microphones or supports in the shot.
- Fewer phase problems and greater clarity when working on the reflective surface itself.
- Easy and clean installation with included hardware and external XLR adapter.
- Versatility : from boardrooms and classrooms to theaters and environmental recordings.
Use cases
- Room atmosphere in auditoriums, theaters and studios.
- Conference and boardrooms, built into a table or ceiling for wide coverage.
- Surveillance/search in areas where discreet capture is required.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is it suitable for outdoor use? It's an indoor microphone with no IP rating. Outdoors, it should be placed under cover and protected from weather/humidity by the installation.
- What size hole do I need? The microphone body is Ø 20 mm ; when using the mini-plug to XLR adapter, the hole may be smaller than a standard XLR connector.
- Power required? Yes, 9–52 V DC phantom power supplied by the mixer, interface, or DSP.
